Barn Conversion, Elsdon

This conversion of a ruined farmhouse dating from around 1600 was completed in 2011.  It features a contemporary split level interior in contrast to its historic exterior.  The walls are lined with thick insulation which also conceals the steel frame used to stabilise the original structure

There are no utility bills because it is is off-grid.  Water comes from a borehole, electricity comes from a generator and space heating is from the Rayburn cooker, supplemented by 2 Jetmaster fires and fuelled by timber from the owner's own woodland
